ConservationThe ultimate aim of the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust (HWDT) is to ensure that cetacean populations of the west coast of Scotland are conserved into future generations. To deliver this we must look at many different issues:
HWDT recognises that successful conservation is brought about through a combination of education, awareness raising, good science and cooperation. Perhaps most importantly for conservation gain is that of cooperation. HWDT endeavours to work closely with local communities, other conservation bodies and government agencies to bring about active conservation not just of cetaceans but the marine environment as a whole.
The Scottish Environmental LINK Bill Campaign Scottish Environmental LINK is the umbrella body for Scotland's environment charities and have been campaigning for a Scottish Marine Bill to be introduced. HWDT is part of LINK's Marine Task Force and has been closely intertwined with the campaign. The government consulation began on the 14th July and will continue for three months until October.
